Tagore Society Singapore is a non profit organization and since its registration on 7th July 2004, relives Gurudeb Rabindranath Tagore, the first Asian Nobel Laureate, through his artistry, poetry, the timeless music, paintings, dance, dance-drama, literature and spiritualism. Our Society is actively involved in spreading his geniuses not only in Singapore and S.E.A. but also have the vision of opening Sister Societies in Europe through cultural exchange to make this world more livable with inner peace and priceless learning.
Sole purpose of disseminating his humanistic philosophy of universalism and its relevance in this globalized world and promote unity in diversity of culture, his vision for education, freedom, gender equality, universal brotherhood and his love for nature. Also enriching Singapore's cultural scene.
Tagore was a brilliant poet, prolific writer, musician, painter, artist, educator, philosopher, social activist, world traveller, education innovator who revolutionized the medium of song, dance and dance-drama. He became famous for his humanistic ideals, outspoken advocacy for a borderless world, mystic nature of his poetry, dramas, essays, short stories and novels. The Bard of Bengal who wrote National Anthems for India and Bangladesh, first Asian Nobel Laureate who won the Nobel Prize for literature in 1913 for Geetanjali. He visited Singapore in 1916, 1924 and 1927. In a message to mark the centenary celebration of Tagore in 1961 in Singapore, our then Prime Minister, Mr Lee Kuan Yew, called Tagore a great man by any standard and said "We would also do well to take the opportunity to remind ourselves of Tagore's message that the quality of our lives and civilization depends more on the internal wealth that we can accumulate than on external possession"
We have done 155 programs to date, including dance, dance-drama, musical concerts, poetry sessions, painting exhibitions, essay competitions, publication of books, etc.
